Cherrylips Designs, The Pierre Hotel, Black contributions to America
A very humorous and revealing story is told about a group of white people who were fed up with African Americans, so they joined together and wished themselves away. They passed through a deep dark tunnel and emerged in sort of a twilight zone where there is an America without black people. At first these white people breathed a sigh of relief. 'At last', they said, 'no more crime, drugs, violence and welfare.' All of the blacks have gone! Then suddenly, reality set in. The 'NEW AMERICA' is not America at all - only a barren land.

1. There are very few crops that have flourished because the nation was built on a slave-supported system.

2. There are no cities with tall skyscrapers because Alexander Mils, a black man, invented the elevator, and without it, one finds great difficulty reaching higher floors.

3. There are few if any cars because Richard Spikes, a black man, invented the automatic gearshift, Joseph Gambol, also black, invented the Super Charge System for Internal Combustion Engines, and Garrett A. Morgan, a black man, invented the traffic signals.

4. Furthermore, one could not use the rapid transit system because its procurer was the electric trolley, which was invented by another black man, Albert R. Robinson.

5. Even if there were streets on which cars and a rapid transit system could operate, they were cluttered with paper because an African American, Charles Brooks, invented the street sweeper.

6. There were few if any newspapers, magazines and books because John Love invented the pencil sharpener, William Purveys invented the fountain pen, and Lee Barrage invented the Type Writing Machine and W. A. Love invented the Advanced Printing Press. They were all, you guessed it, Black.

7. Even if Americans could write their letters, articles and books, they would not have been transported by mail because William Barry invented the Postmarking and Canceling Machine, William Purveys invented the Hand Stamp and Philip Downing invented the Letter Drop.

8. The lawns were brown and wilted because Joseph Smith invented the Lawn Sprinkler and John Burr the Lawn Mower.

9. When they entered their homes, they found them to be poorly ventilated and poorly heated. You see, Frederick Jones invented the Air Conditioner and Alice Parker the Heating Furnace. Their homes were also dim. But of course, Lewis Lattimer later invented the Electric Lamp, Michael Harvey invented the lantern, and Granville T. Woods invented the Automatic Cut off Switch. Their homes were also filthy because Thomas W. Steward invented the Mop and Lloyd P. Ray the Dust Pan.

10. Their children met them at the door - barefooted, shabby, motley and unkempt. But what could one expect? Jan E. Matzelinger invented the Shoe Lasting Machine, Walter Sammons invented the Comb, Sarah Boone invented the Ironing Board, and George T. Samon invented the Clothes Dryer.

11. Finally, they were resigned to at least have dinner amidst all of this turmoil. But here again, the food had spoiled because another Black Man, John Standard invented the refrigerator..

Now, isn't that something? What would this country be like without the contributions of Blacks, as African-Americans?

Martin Luther King, Jr. said, 'by the time we leave for work, millions of Americans have depended on the inventions from the minds of Blacks.'

Black history includes more than just slavery, Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey and W.E.B. Dubois.

Cherrylips Designs, Tim Walker
A picture is worth a thousand words. With that said, I have a deep respect for photographers and I have more than enough clippings of their work to drool over. British fashion photographer Tim Walker, is one of my favorite photographers and his photos are elegant, precise, dramatic and pastel at times. Tim's work has graced the pages of the best magazines, mainly Vogue, and his work is being displayed in the Galleria Carla Sozzani in Milan, Italy. Tim's work that has never been seen before will also be exhibited. Walker started in the archives of Cecil Beaton and had his first major exhibition at London's Design Museum in the spring of 2008. The Victoria & Albert Museum and the National Portrait Gallery in London have since included photographs by Walker in their permanent collections.

January 24, 2010 through March 7, 2010.

I just came across this posting about the ignorant staff at NBC - again! In honor of Black History Month, the NBC cafeteria served fried chicken, collard greens, and jalapeno cornbread today for lunch. The picture below was snapped by Questlove, the drummer for the Roots--Jimmy Fallon's house band. The reason why this is so controversial is because of their poor choice of words AND possibly the person who's idea this was, may be racist. Had they stated that in honor of black history month they were going to make soul food then there would be no problem but they make it seems as though black history month is all about soul food when in actuality it's much, much more than that. ... - Read More!

Happy February, Happy Black History Month everybody! We watched the Grammy's last night and we didn't even fall asleep midway through. All the performances were great but the highlights were Beyoncé and P!nk. Beyoncé was nominated for ten awards and took home six making it the most trophies won by a female artist in a single night. Checkout P!nk's wet performance and Beyoncé's performance of "If I were a Boy" and "You Oughta Know" (take that Britney!) before it gets deleted from YouTube permanently.

Doctors from local hospitals in Kingston, Jamaica, report that they've been seeing a record number of broken dicks in the past few months. They attribute this to the increased popularity of "daggering."

Daggering, or "daggeration", is slang for very, very rough sex. Doctors from Kingston say that they have been seeing patients with fractured penises as frequently as every other week. They believe that the sharp rise in injuries is a result of new "obsession" with daggering. A surgeon from Kingston Public Hospital explained the most common cause: "during very rigorous intercourse, the penis slips out and in an attempt to ram it back in, the man hits the woman's pubic bone and pops the penis." Ouch.

In a story published last September, Dr Alverston Bailey advised men to seek medical help if they suspect their penises have been broken. Signs of a fractured penis include a loud popping noise, followed by excruciating pain, swelling, and sometimes blood.

As much as this sounds like it really sucks for men, Mar from Mongoose Chronicles raises an interesting question: how much does this "rough sex" hurt the women involved? In efforts to explain the phenomenon, Mer turns to popular music:

For years, Caribbean music has reflected men's apparent belief that sexual prowess and - by their extension, masculinity - was defined by a violent approach to heterosexual sex. This has in some instances been encouraged by women DJs who competed with their male counterparts not on the basis of musical talent, of 'killing a sound' as the men have done, but by highlighting their own sexual freedom and bravado: their capacity to - in sexual and other implied terms - take whatever the men could dish out. So that while we've had songs like Cabin Stabbin from Super Cat et al, we've also had Stab Up Mi Meat from Lady Saw. Now arguably, the thrusting act that might be a part of sexual intercourse could be described as stabbing, if one were given to violent metaphors, which - given the prevalence of actual, criminal, sexual violence perpetrated both within and outside of relationships - I for one am not. But it seems like we're consumed with encouraging as much violence in sex as possible. 'Stabbing' has become too tame; now we have to call it 'daggering'.

The music video for "Daggering" by Mr. Vegas, helped make this particular form of sex (and dancing) famous. The concern over daggering has lead the Jamaican Broadcasting Commission to ban music about daggering or other sexual acts.

"The best way to experience the web, email, photos, and video. Hands down!". That's not what I said but that's how Apple describes their latest creation, "The iPad". The "Apple's Latest Creation" event was held at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco yesterday with Steve Jobs back as the MC. After months of speculation and name guessing, Steve Jobs finally and officially announced their newest creation. Taking off where the iPhone and iPod Touch♥ left off, the iPad has a large screen, Internet, Email, Apps, photos and many other features. All of the built-in apps on iPad were designed from the ground up to take advantage of the large Multi-Touch screen. And they work in any orientation. So you can do things with these apps that you can’t do on any other device. The iPad's starting price is $499 and Wi-Fi models ship in late March and 3G models (the 3G data plan is a separate cost) ship in April.

Donatella Versace was photographed tanning in St. Barth's and the photos clearly show her body tanned and wrinkled. All of this, may or may not be a result of old age. Although I don't know any 50 year old's that look like that so I'll assume it's simply too much tanning. In regards to the message boards, I can't even talk trash about her really I have to just applaud her for having the courage to go out there and not care what people think about her. Face it, if you like to go to the beach, you go and you enjoy yourself. Do you really think about your appearance?

When buying a bathing suit we let it marinate in our brains but when we plan to go to the beach we're more concerned about getting towels, sunscreen, glasses and everything else! Plus, beauty is an the eye of the beholder.
